Freedom Celebration July 2

The Town of Williamston will host their annual Freedom Celebration and Fireworks event this Saturday, July 2 with music, food, a cruise-in and fireworks show. There will be food vendors in Mineral Spring Park beginning at noon Saturday until offering barbecue, hotdogs, funnel cakes and old fashioned ice cream.

Funding approved for EW projects

Williamston Town Council approved the Town’s Annual Budget for FY2016-17 on Monday evening (6/27). Envision Williamston was funded for a variety of economic and community development projects for next year including the following:

(1) An Electronic Message Board, full color (Promotions and Marketing)

(2) A Main Street Challenge, to be matched 2:1 with outside funds (Economic Development)

(3) Downtown Banners, to complement the electronic message board (Beautification)

(4) Community Activities, such as a public spaces clean-up day and a youth-oriented murals project (Community Engagement)

The EW Board wishes to thank the entire Town Council membership for their unanimous support.

“Our special thanks go out to Council Members Mayor Mack Durham, Councilman Tony Hagood, Councilman David Harvell, and Councilman Otis Scott,” Envision Williamston Executive Director Sonya Crandall said. “We appreciate their dedicated leadership in making these projects possible for the Town! They are all our Economic Champions.”

Pursuant to our Economic Development and Placemaking Committee meeting also held last evening, we may be pursing the Adopt a Rest Stop project (Beautification), a Walmart Strategy project (Economic Development), and possibly a Facade Improvement program (also Beautification and Economic Development) with external funding – Envision Williamston Executive Director Sonya Crandall

 

Last Chance to enter Photo Contest

Deadline to enter the Williamston in Focus Photography Contest is June 30. The contest includes a People’s Choice Grand Prize Winner. The $100 prize will be awarded courtesy of Palmetto Properties Real Estate, Inc.

All area amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit photos celebrating local historic, cultural, recreational or economic assets. Photos taken within the past two years may be submitted in one of four categories: Williamston events, Williamston landmarks, Williamston businesses/organizations or Williamston people.

Up to three photos may be submitted in each category and may be submitted in digital form online. Details are available here on the EW website.

Photo Contest will have $100 Grand Prize!

The Williamston in Focus Photography Contest will include a People’s Choice Grand Prize Winner. The $100 prize will be awarded courtesy of Palmetto Properties Real Estate, Inc. All qualified entrants are eligible. There is still time, but the deadline for photo submission is June 30th!

 

EW project list submitted to town council

EW Executive Director Sonya Crandall has presented town council with a list of projects and priority needs recently identified by the Envision Williamston Board. Funding for the projects will be voted on at the June 13 meeting of council as part of the 2016-17 budget year.

 

EW Director updates town council on projects

Envision Williamston’s Executive Director Sonya Crandall recently updated town council on activities of the economic development program. Envision Williamston has been active in placement of three wayfinding signs, promotion of community events and is currently encouring community engagement with the Willimaston in Focus photo contest and beginning implementation of recommendation included in the recently completed Community Master Plan, Crandall said.

Deadline nearing for Envision Williamston photo contest

All area amateur and professional photographers are reminded the deadline is nearing  to enter the “Williamston in Focus” Photography Contest. Participants can submit photos celebrating local historic, cultural, recreational or economic assets. Deadline for entries is June 30. 

Envision Williamston is sponsoring the “Williamston in Focus” photography contest. Anyone is invited to be a part of the contest which will include awards and other recognition for winners, Envision Williamston Executive Director Sonya Crandall said.
