Building Facade Grants

Envision Williamston/Town of Williamston Facade Improvement Grant Phase II

Envision Williamston is pleased to announce that it is launching a second “Façade Improvement Grant Program,” this fall (2017). It is intended to stimulate improvements to the exterior of commercial buildings within the Town of Williamston. The funding of this program is provided through the Palmetto Business Association in partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission and Envision Williamston. A five-person Façade Improvement Steering Committee (FISC) will once again oversee the project.
If missed out on Phase I, you won’t want to left out this time! Grant awards can range from $500 to $2,000. You must match 50% of the total cost or more. For example, on a $4,000 sign or awning project, you would be eligible for a grant of up to $2,000. Your share would be only $2,000. That is a savings of $2,000 to you!
Eligible applicants include owners of commercial properties and owners/managers of businesses located within the Town of Williamston. Business owners/managers who are leasing a building for which improvements are proposed must submit a letter from the owner giving consent and approval of proposed project plans.
Eligible expenditures shall include expenses related solely to exterior improvements. Allowable improvements include exterior building improvements (cosmetic and/or structural), painting, signage, windows, and awnings which are visible from the street.
Apply today!! Applications will be accepted from September 27th through November 10, 2017.
Application forms and guidance can be found on the Envision Williamston website under “Programs.” For more information contact Sonya Crandall at sonyacew@gmail.com

Trotter Holdings, Inc. is the first recipient to take advantage of a Facade Improvement Grant recently offered to local businesses in the town of Williamston. The grants require a minimum of a 50/50 match for local improvements to building facades and are sponsored by the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC) and the Palmetto Business Association (PBA).

TwiceIceres

The improvements to the Twice the Ice machine located at 20 Greenville Drive in Williamston are multiple. The machine is now 10 years old and has suffered sun and wind damage, causing the current graphics to crack and peel. Ice House America has redesigned the outside graphics package to now include screen printed graphics on a slick white panel surface. The faded blue awning will also be replaced during the upgrade. In addition, new LED exterior lighting will be added on both the side and front, making the machine more user friendly at night and a safer place to visit after hours.

Total cost of the project is over $8,000 with a grant of $1,500 from the Facade Grant program. The full renovation should be completed soon.

Congratulations to Chris Trotter for being the first to implement his winning facade grant project!

The other eight (8) winners have a year in which to complete their facade improvements. Grants amounts range from $500 to $2,000, depending on the project size and scope.
