Executive Director’s Message

Ever wonder where you could live and have that small-town feel, but still have access to all the conveniences of a city? Well, Williamston could be that place for you! Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Williamston is a historic town that offers both natural beauty and modern amenities. The historic Mineral Spring Park is one of the oldest parks in the nation. The town hosts more than 20 events throughout the year, attracting visitors from throughout the Southeast making it a market destination for community festivals and events. It is also only a 15-minute drive to Greenville and Anderson, SC with international companies, Broadway shows, and exceptional cuisine.

Yet, why drive, when you can shop locally? Williamston and its surrounding area have a business friendly merchant association, the Palmetto Business Association, that gathers regularly to share information, make connections, and encourage collaborative ventures. The town’s downtown Main Street is also undergoing a major revitalization. In 2014, Envision Williamston was launched and then expanded to encompass the entire town in 2015. Since that time, a host of local leaders have volunteered to participate in façade improvement, reinvestment of historic structures, the development of attractive rest stops, and other beautification projects in 2016-18.  A concerted plan for business investment is planned for 2019.

Williamston also enjoys a temperate climate and has a welcoming resident population. In addition, community engagement is encouraged through local contests such as the annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest and the Mural Contest, among many others. With so many activities happening, Envision Williamston is launching the town’s inaugural mobile app entitled “Williamston, SC”. Download it today and receive a free tote bag with the “Historic Williamston” logo on front.

Desire a healthy lifestyle? Williamston’s leadership is growing that aspect of the community too. The Mineral Spring Trail Walk was created in 2015 and a new trail extension is being launched in 2018. A full bicycle and pedestrian trail plan has also been developed and is currently seeking funding for redevelopment.

We are pleased that you are interested in the future of our small town and invite you to be a part of the exciting development in Williamston. We have that “sense of place” that contributes to a fuller and happier life. Through rich social and cultural activities, historic walking trails, locally designed murals, recreational activities, and diverse community events, we encourage local participation at whatever level fits you best. Come grow with us, and see what makes Williamston offer one of the highest qualities of life in the Upstate!
