2021 – Scarecrow decorating contest underway

The Town of Williamston and the Envision Williamston Main Street Program invite all area residents and businesses to participate in the Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest which is now underway. Scarecrows will be on display throughout the town until during October and mid November and awards will be given for a number of categories.
Deadline for contest entry is October 1. Judging will be the week of October 11.
Entry Forms may be picked up at Town Hall or printed from the Envision Williamston website at www.williamstonsc.us or social media page and should be returned when the form is completely filled out.

The contest is open to all ages, however each project entry must be supervised by at least one adult, 21 years of age or older. Some public locations will be available on a first come first served basis.

Bobbers on Big Creek Race – 2019

The Palmetto Business Association, Town of Williamston, and Envision Williamston are pleased to co-sponsor the 2019 inaugural “Bobbers on Big Creek Race!”

What to do:

  • Shop local between June 15 and June 29 at a participating business. Look for the sign that states “Bobber Stickers Available Here.”
  • Spend over $10 and receive a Historic Williamston Bobber Sticker.
  • Bring your Bobber Sticker to the sign-in at 3pm the day of the Freedom Celebration (June 29th). We will be located under the Main Street Bridge.
  • Receive your Bobber and enter the race! Race begins at 4pm.
  • Must be entered and present to win!

2018 Scarecrow Decorating Contest

The Historic Town of Williamston and the Envision Williamston, invite all area Residents and Businesses to participate in the 4th Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest. The official display period is from September 24th through November 16th. However, you may erect your display upon design approval.

Registration deadline is October 15th to be eligible for judging.

Awards will be given for all categories and there will be a “People’s Choice Award” for the overall best. Online voting will begin in October!

2015-2017 Scarecrow Decorating Contests – now entering its 4th Year!

Mural Design Contest

Historic Williamston, The Palmetto Area Cultural Arts Center and Envision Williamston announce a Mural Design Contest for a mural project in Williamston. The project is a part of the Williamston Downtown Acceleration Program (WDAP) that is being funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC)

A mural is a painting, mosaic, fresco, or other permanent artwork attached or applied directly to the outside of a structure.
Four locations in Williamston have been selected as mural sites including:
  1. 112AW.Main Street – small white building facing the fire station
  2. 306 Greenville Drive – former Friendly Barber Shop
  3. 712 Anderson Drive – Fant’s Office Supply Store
  4. 17 Pelzer Avenue – Side of Goody’s (independently designed and painted)
Goals of the project are to:
  • Produce new murals that re-engage the community, especially youth and local artists, and create new opportunities for muralists.
  • Promote engagement activities that are interactive, educational, and/or cultural tourism opportunities.
  • Enhance the streetscape in the downtown historic Williamston area.

2016 Spring Photo Contest

Envision Williamston will sponsor their second community contest which will be a Spring Photo Contest “Williamston In Focus” April 1 through June 30, 2016.

Deadline to enter the Williamston in Focus Photography Contest is June 30. The contest will include a People’s Choice Grand Prize Winner. The $100 prize will be awarded courtesy of Palmetto Properties Real Estate, Inc. All area amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit photos celebrating local historic, cultural, recreational or economic assets.

Photos taken within the past two years may be submitted in one of four categories: Williamston events, Williamston landmarks, Williamston businesses/organizations or Williamston people. Up to three photos may be submitted in each category and may be submitted in digital form online. Details are available here on the EW website at www.envisionwilliamston.com
